These are the Monocled terms/conditions/rules/guidelines/what have you for submitting a guest comic to the site. Everything on this page is subject to change, but we hope to limit changes to the best of our ability. If a change occurs, it will not affect comics already on the site.


ART
While good art is not necessary, we may reject your submission if we feel the art is simply too degrading to the comic as a whole. Some exceptions may be made for exceptional humor, but we STRONGLY suggest you put your best effort into your artwork. The quality of the art should not distract the viewer unless that is the purpose, and even doing bad successfully takes effort. The most important rule about art is it MUST be original. You cannot rip Mario from a sprite sheet and call him your own.

CONTENT
We'd like to say our comics are safe for the whole family, but well... they aren't. We don't expect you to live up to G rated standards either, but we still expect decency. Adult themes are ok, but there must be NO NUDITY and NO SEVERE LANGUAGE (except in very special cases). You may use black bars or heavy blurs to cover nudity and symbols instead of curse words.

Comics that include COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL will NOT BE ACCEPTED. You may feature cameo appearences of popular characters, but you may not take a comic directly off another website and call it your own. If we find out your comic is copyrighted, we will not allow any more comics from your email address.

DIMENSIONS
A comic may not be any wider than 700 pixels. The uploader will prevent your submission if it is wider. There is no set limit on how tall a comic may be, but keep it reasonable please. The last thing we want are four billion comics that are all four billion pixels tall.

FILETYPE
We strongly suggest you save your images as .png files because they compress nicely while maintaining a 32bit color range. We will also accept .bmp, .gif, and .jpg formats. All formats are listed on the upload page, and the uploader will stop your submission if the file is a different image format or not an image format at all.

FILESIZE
A file may not be larger than 500,000 bytes (roughly 500kb). The uploader knows filesize as well. For special exceptions email the monocled team. If a comic is of practical dimensions, it should not be any larger than this size. Chances are if you do email us concerning size, we will just tell you to compress it.

WHEN TO EXPECT THE COMIC
Expect the comic to be posted within a week after you receive an acceptance email. If your comic is not accepted, don't expect a sorry email. We may send one out, but it all depends on the number of comics we are reviewing. Comics may be cached for longer than this if we decide to feature your comic in any manner (generally a themed week). If we do decide to cache your comic, you will be notified with the reasoning. This section of the write up is especially subject to change since we have no idea how popular the guest comic idea will become.

RIGHTS
We will not force you to use our watermark, but if you decide you want to, it is available for download here. We strongly encourage you sign your comic directly to prevent any doubt that you are in fact the author. You will retain full rights to your comic whether or not you decide to use the Monocled watermark.

REMOVAL
A comic will not be removed from monocled.com unless required to by the law (for whatever reason) or the artist requests deletion. If you wish to have your comic(s) removed from the site, simply email us, and it will promptly be removed, and the image deleted.
